Finding an Acne Cure

Not Rated stars Avg. rating: Not Rated from 0 votes.

Acne is a serious skin disorder that plagues millions of people around the world. Teenagers are more typically affected, but infants and adults can sometimes experience acne as well. Having acne can cause personal anguish and even lowered self-esteem. It can leave its victims embarrassed and depressed. With acne causing such negative feelings, it is little wonder that sufferers are so interested in finding an effective acne cure that will help improve their overall skin condition.

Over the years, many studies have been conducted to try to identify an acne cure. Even so, there is currently no one cure that can eliminate all acne, even though some products may claim they can. There is, however, a variety of acne treatments available on the market. The effectiveness of these acne cures is as varied as the individuals that use them, the severity of their acne condition, and their skin type.

More common acne treatments are over-the-counter products, such as cleansers, moisturizers, astringents and pimple creams. These cures are proven, at least to some degree, to clear clogged pores, and eliminate whiteheads and blackheads. Some products encourage old skin to peel off, giving way to fresh new skin.

Topical antibiotics or "prescription only" acne cures are also available. These treatments fight acne by eliminating the acne-causing bacteria that infects the pores. However, some strains of bacteria may be resistant to antibiotic treatment. It is also worth noting that topical antibiotics can have side effects, and their impact should be considered before choosing this treatment option.

Oral antibiotics can also be used to treat acne. This method is less desirable, as there are increased side effects, as the medication affects the entire body. Some typical side effects include nausea and dizziness.

Some vitamin A derivatives can aid in eliminating acne by preventing skin cells from clumping together, and encourage old skin to be shed. These too have their side effects, ranging from skin irritation or redness, to psychological effects and even birth defects.

Regardless of the method of treatment you use to cure your own case of acne, be sure that you make your choice of treatment along with your dermatologist. By knowing the specifics of your acne type, your skin type, and the available options, your dermatologist can aid you in making the right choice of treatment.
